Blanket Gas Regulators

Cross Company Blanket Gas Regulators

Gas (tank) blanketing is the process of maintaining a constant pressure of gas in the vapor space of a storage tank. The gas blanket is contained above the liquid in a closed storage tank, vessel or container. The gas used is inert, normally nitrogen. A blanket gas regulator controls the gas environment by maintaining the inert atmosphere to reduce tank emissions and prevent contamination from outside oxygen and moisture.

Tank blanketing is a necessary process for many different industries to maintain storage tank integrity. It prevents the formation of potentially hazardous conditions such as combustible gas mixtures, corrosion, and product degradation. These blanket gas regulators play an important role in maintaining the pressure and flow of the blanket gas, which ensures the safety and integrity of storage tanks as well as their contents.

At Cross Company Process Solutions, we work with a wide range of customers across dozens of industries. We can provide your operation with the blanket gas regulators you need to protect your people, your equipment, and your process.

Safety Equipment for Process Applications

There are extensive applications for blanket gas regulators across process manufacturing. In sectors like oil & gas, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, food & beverage, and chemical manufacturing, storage tanks are used to hold a wide variety of substances. And many of those substances are potentially toxic, flammable, or otherwise reactive. In those situations, blanket gas regulators may be a necessity.

The primary benefit of using blanket gas regulators is safety enhancement. They ensure the safety of storage tanks through maintaining the appropriate pressures and through preventing the ingress of air or contaminants. By doing this, they mitigate the risk of fires, explosions, and other reactions that could lead to hazardous conditions.

Blanket gas regulators protect the quality and integrity of stored products. In industries such as food and beverage, where products’ taste, texture, and quality matter, blanket gas regulators prevent contamination and spoilage by maintaining the desired environment. Likewise, in something like chemical manufacturing, blanket gas regulators help conserve valuable resources by preventing evaporation, oxidation, or degradation.

Why Use A Blanket Gas Regulator?

There are many reasons to use blanket gas regulators and other gas regulatory equipment. Some of those reasons include

  • Reduce atmospheric emissions
  • Reduce evaporative losses from product and blanket gas
  • Reduce fire and explosion risk cause by lightning or other factors by creating an inert atmosphere in a pressurized tank
  • Reduce or prevent product deterioration, contamination or spoilage, typically due to the introduction of air into the vacuum condition
  • Prevent oxidation in the tank

Did you know… Cross Company is an ESOP (Employee Stock Ownership Plan). Our ESOP started in 1979 and as of 2006, we are 100% employee-owned! Learn more about our ESOP and how that benefits both team members and our customers.
Did you know... the precision measurement group at Cross was founded in 1939 by our current CEO's grandfather, Jim King. That's a whole lot of calibration!
Did you know... A fingerprint weighs about 50 micrograms. We know, we weighed it! The residue left from a finger can actually make a difference in weight results which is why we wear gloves when we calibrate weights. For reference, a sheet of paper is about 4.5 grams, that’s 4.5 million micrograms.
Did you know… Cross Company has grown significantly since our start in 1954. Over the years we've acquired 26 companies! Today, our five groups have expertise in everything from industrial automation to precision measurement, and industry knowledge going all the way back to 1939.
